Traffic and
Transport working group
My
thanks to the regular contributors and visitors/correspondents to the working
party who have made useful contributions.
Putting
Pedestrians First
is the aim of the working
party
(broadly including
pedestrians, cyclists, buggy users in that category)
Aiming to
- Have wide enough pavements to walk along safely,
- Reduce the number of cars cruising around the town, looking for a
space
- Seeking suitable places to cross including useful dropped kerbs
- More places to park a vehicle displaying a disabled user badge
- Improve pedestrian access at difficult places to encourage people
to walk more
- Proactively support bus services for residents to get to Alresford
and out to other towns
Works agreed this year
- Footpath across the Perins
School site - open early to late (approx 8am to 11pm)
- Car park providing
additional spaces at the Perins site
- Clear arrangements for
parking in the town centre
This project should be complete by Spring 2009
- Restoration of 67 bus
service to hourly
Identified for future improvement
- Pavements/pavement
improvements :Sun Lane, the Soke
- Improved width and
access: West Street
- Station car park
entrances
- Places to cross: the
Dean Crossroads
- A full disability audit
done section by section
- More disabled parking at
sites dotted around the town, not all in one place
- Later bus to/from
Winchester
As
developer funding has ‘dried up’ the next steps are to seek funding for
infrastructure work on safety and access grounds
